A Blank Slate

Choosing the right van was the first milestone. Now I have to start the build-out process and there are so many options! Here are the critical categories. I’ll cover each in depth in a separate post.

  • Walls & insulation
  • Solar power & electrical components
  • Layout & furniture

Before any of this can happen though, I need to do the one part that’s not much fun. Cleaning. Boo! Fortunately iVan is in decent shape. Here’s what iVan looks like when he arrived.

You can see the steel partition wall between the front cab and the rear cargo space. That will be the first thing to remove. Also, the plywood floor is pretty nasty, so I’ll get rid of that too.

There was sticky tar paper under the plywood flooring, but a little Goo Gone fixed that in no time! Here’s the cleaned out van ready for build-out!

At the moment I'm working at a small startup near downtown LA, where I get to code all day and kite and climb the rest of the time. No complaints really. Github repos
